§ Mr. Kelleyasked the Minister of Technology (1) what effect he estimates the rate of 10 per cent. interest charged during the construction of nuclear power stations will have upon the estimated cost of electricity sent out from these stations;
(2) what effect he estimates the rate of 10 per cent. interest charged during the construction of coal-fired power stations will have upon the estimated cost of electricity sent out from these stations.
Mr. Alan WilliamsThe C.E.G.B. advise me that a 10 per cent. interest rate instead of 8 per cent. during construction would increase the estimate of base-load generating costs of a nuclear station by about 0.03d./kWh. and of a coal-fired station by about 0.02d./kWh.
