HC Deb 26 February 1970 vol 796 c406W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council why, in view of the fact that Members of Parliament's salaries have not been increased since 1964, he is delaying the reference to the National Board for Prices and Incomes of Members of Parliament's salaries and expenses until the next Parliament.

Mr. Peart

The Government came to the conclusion that priority should for the present be given to improving the facilities for Members to do their job here, and that it would be better to leave the general review of Members' remuneration until a new Parliament. But I am aware of the continuing concern felt by many hon. Members on both sides about this matter.
