Mr. Crowder

asked the Minister of Technology if he will estimate the number of households in the United Kingdom possessing a refrigerator, a washing machine and a car, respectively, in the years 1959, 1964 and the last convenient year.

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 17th February, 1970; Vol. 796, c. 94] gave the following information: Estimates of the number of households in Great Britain having a refrigerator, a washing machine and with the regular use of a car are:

1964 million 1969 million
Refrigerators 6.3 11.2
Washing machines 9.0 12.0
Use of car 6.4 9.7

Comparable figures for 1959 and for the United Kingdom as a whole are not available.
