HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 c272W
42. Mr. Eadie

asked the Minister of Transport how many men and women failed at the first attempt to pass a motor car driving test in 1969; and how many passed at the second and third attempts.

Mr. Bob Brown

Information in the form requested is not available on a regular basis. A survey carried out two years ago showed that the proportion of men and women who failed the test at their first attempt in vehicles of Group 1 (most of which were motor cars) was 56.5 per cent. and 63 per cent. respectively. For all candidates, the proportion who passed at the first, second and third attempts was 43 per cent., 29 per cent. and 13 per cent. respectively, but we have no breakdown of these figures between men and women.
