§ 93. Sir G. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action has been taken by Her Majesty's Government in respect of the resolution, adopted on 20th October, 1969, by the North Atlantic Assembly, a copy of which is in his possession, urging the Government of the Alliance to use all appropriate means to bring about, promptly, a return of Greece by free elections to parliamentary democracy and the rule of law.
§ Mr. LuardI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to my hon. and learned Friend the Member for Dulwich (Mr. S. C. Silkin) on 10th November, 1969. Her Majesty's Government are in full agreement with the objective of promoting an early return to democratic rule in Greece. This has been our continuing aim and we have naturally discussed it with other interested Governments. But in considering how it should be implemented we must also determine which is the most appropriate forum for pursuing such objectives.—[Vol. 791, c. 9–10.]
