HC Deb 23 February 1970 vol 796 cc246-7W
Miss Pike

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether firms asked by his Department on 14th July, 1969, to supply information on transaction in chattels at over £1,000 were informed that the fact of the request was to be kept confidential.

Mr. Taverne

No.

Mr. Worsley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent he requires auctioneers, art dealers and others to establish the true identity and address of those to whom they sell and from whom they buy chattels over £1,000 value; whether he is satisfied with the administrative arrangements to do so; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Taverne

To the extent they deem appropriate in the particular circumstances. My right hon. Friend is at present satisfied with the arrangements and has no statement to make.
