HC Deb 23 February 1970 vol 796 cc262-3W
Mr. Channon

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works for what purpose the Admiralty Citadel is at present being used; what plans he has for its future use; and what is the estimated cost of demolition.

Mr. John Silkin

The Admiralty Citadel contains the Whitehall Wireless Station, a private telephone exchange serving the Navy Department and conference rooms and offices. Under present policy it will continue to be used for these purposes. In 1955 it was estimated that the cost of demolition would be of the order of £700,000. We have not undertaken a more recent assessment, but there is no doubt that the figure would be considerably higher now.
