asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the percentage increase of imports of cotton towels into the United Kingdom in 1969 as compared with 1968; and what proportion of these imports in each year was duty-free.

In terms of quantity, imports fell by 17 per cent. between 1968 and 1969. Duty-free imports made up about 90 per cent. of the total in both years.
