asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation in the current Session to institute a time limit between the death or resignation of a Member of Parliament and the issue of the writ for the by-election.

No. The Government accepted the recommendation of the Speaker's Conference on Electoral Law in 1967 that there should be no change in the law in this respect.
