HC Deb 19 February 1970 vol 796 c159W
8 and 9. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Minister of Overseas Development (1) why Her Majesty's Government have not yet carried out the Financial Assistance Agreement with Malta since April; and whether they will now enter negotiations over the second quinquennium of the Agreement;

(2) whether, with a view to improving relations with Malta, the Government will increase their present offer of 50 per cent. grant and 50 per cent. loan for assistance to Malta.

29. Mr. Fisher

asked the Minister of Overseas Development whether she is now in a position to announce the conclusion of the aid negotiations with Malta.

Mr. Whitaker

There is no question of the British Government not adhering to the 1964 Financial Agreement with Malta; but I regret I cannot give details of the negotiations since they are not yet concluded.

Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Overseas Development if she will make a further statement on the suspension of aid to Malta.

Mr. Whitaker

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave earlier today to a similar Question.
