HC Deb 18 February 1970 vol 796 c138W
82. Miss Harvie Anderson

asked the Minister of Transport if he will arrange for the construction of a motorway from Stirling to Newhaven avoiding the centre of London.

Mr. Bob Brown

I am advised by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland that by 1973 motorways or dual carriageway all-purpose trunk roads will be available from Stirling to the border at Gretna. Continuous dual carriageway connections, mainly motorway, are already in existence, under construction or planned from Gretna to within a few miles of Newhaven avoiding the centre of London. Of these routes, some 290 miles are already in use and a further 104 miles are under construction.
