HC Deb 18 February 1970 vol 796 c130W
Mr. Hooley

asked the President of the Board of Trade what calculations have been made by his Department about the effect on United Kingdom trade with the Commonwealth of abandoning Commonwealth Preference in exchange for a generalised system of non-reciprocal preferences now being discussed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The abandonment of Commonwealth preference is not in question. We expect Commonwealth countries to be compensated in other markets for the extent to which they are called upon to share their present preferential advantages in the British market.
