asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress is being made on the eradication scheme for brucellosis; and if he will make a statement.

To the end of January, 3,936 applications had been received and 934 Scottish herds are now registered as accredited under the Brucellosis (Accredited Herds) Scheme. The herds at present in the scheme represent about 8.5 per cent. of the total herds and about 21.4 per cent. of the total eligible cattle in Scotland.

Applications are coming in steadily and progress is being maintained.
