§ Mr. Michael Footasked the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects work to begin on the improvement of the A4046 road in the centre of Ebbw Vale.
§ Mr. George ThomasI am about to make a grant of £151,540 to Ebbw Vale Urban District Council for the improvement of this road. This is the first of the seven principal road schemes which, as I announced in the House during the debate on Welsh Affairs on 15th October, 1968, are to be put in hand to improve travel to work facilities for those who have longer journeys to make to new areas of employment following the closure of collieries in the South Wales coalfield.
The starting date for the work is a matter for the urban district council as the highway authority, but I expect this to be soon.
