HC Deb 17 February 1970 vol 796 c102W
Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he is aware that on Sunday 8th February disabled citizens were refused permission to enter the Elizabethan Image Exhibition at the Tate Gallery; and if he will make further support of the Tate Gallery from public funds dependent upon their providing proper access to members of the public.

Miss Jennie Lee

Sunday 8th February was the last day of the Elizabethan Image Exhibition. The gallery was extremely crowded and it was explained to two disabled visitors that the congestion in the exhibition was such that it would not be possible to manipulate a wheel chair in the crowds. In normal circumstances every assistance is given to disabled people visiting the Tate Gallery and a number have visited this Exhibition.
