asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the amount of advances by local authorities under the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) (Scotland) Acts 1899 to 1923 in each of the past five years.

The totals of advances by Scottish local authorities for house purchase or improvement were—

1965–66 £5.5 million
1966–67 £5.2 million
1967–68 £4.6 million
1968–69 £5.6 million
1969–70 (first 3 quarters) £3.2 million
