asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will publish a table to show the gross number of emigrants from Scotland in each of the last 10 years; and what percentage change this represents, taking 1958–59 as the base year.

Gross figures for overseas movement are not available prior to 1967. It is impossible to give accurate statistics for all movements of persons between Scotland and other parts of the United Kingdom, but estimates have been made based on National Health Service records which can be taken as an indication of the magnitude of gross migration flows. These figures, together with percentages using 1958–59 as the base year, are set out in the table below.
