HC Deb 13 February 1970 vol 795 cc442-3W
Mr. Wright

asked the Minister of Transport how many accidents occurred in the 12 months to the last convenient date caused by or involving articulated lorries; and how these figures compare with the four previous 12 months.

Mr. Bob Brown

Information is not yet available for a full 12 months period, but in the first three months of 1969 a total of 443 articulated vehicles were involved in fatal and serious accidents. Separate statistics for these vehicles were not collected prior to 1969.

Mr. Wright

asked the Minister of Transport if he has reached any conclusions as a result of his investigations into accidents involving articulated lorries.

Mr. Bob Brown

We hope that progress with the accident investigations and the trials of articulated vehicles fitted with anti-jack-knifing devices will enable some conclusions to be reached later this year.
