§ 72. Mr. Marksasked the Minister of Transport what administrative arrangements are made to protect third parties injured or whose property is damaged in accidents involving vehicles used without insurance.
Mr. Bob BrownUnder an agreement made between the Minister of Transport and the Motor Insurers' Bureau in 1946 the bureau undertakes, subject to the terms of the agreement, to satisfy judgments in respect of liabilities for personal injuries which are compulsorily insurable but which are not met by the judgment debtor.
Insurance against liabilities for property damage caused by vehicles is not compulsory and it would not therefore be appropriate to extend these arrangements to that field. It is open to owners of property which is damaged to pursue their remedy in the courts.
I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the agreement.
