HC Deb 12 February 1970 vol 795 c403W
Q8. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Common Market's £750 million surplus in 1968 had turned into a £42 million deficit in 1969, and that the European Economic Community will introduce restrictive measures to combat inflation and whether, in view of these new circumstances, he will now withdraw Great Britain's application to join the European Economic Community.

The Prime Minister

All relevant factors were taken into account in preparing Command Paper 4289. As I said in my statement on Tuesday, Britain's application has been made, and that is not in question.—[Vol. 795, c. 1080–84.]
