Rentonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what 380W steps are being taken to ensure protection of the civilian population against conventional or nuclear external attacks, and from fall-out drifting over Great Britain from a nuclear attack upon the Continent; when any Minister last gave encouragement to local authorities in the performance of their duties under the Civil Defence Act 1948; and how much is to be spent on Civil Defence in 1969–70 and 1970–71.
§ Mr. Elystan MorganArrangements have been made to advise the civil population about self-protection and to provide warning of attack and of radioactive fall-out and for maintaining, or resuming, essential services. The Home Office is in regular contact with local authorities on the discharge of their civil defence responsibilities. Gross annual expenditure on civil defence will be about £8 million in both years.
