HC Deb 11 February 1970 vol 795 c344W
53. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that many small businessmen and shopkeepers are suffering increasing losses and possible closure due to repeated acts of vandalism; and if he will obtain reports from the chief constables as to whether alternative or improved methods of detection and protection can be provided.

Mr. Ross

I know that acts of vandalism can damage small businesses. Measures taken by chief constables to curb vandalism and other crimes with my encouragement and assistance include new and improved methods of policing, with greater use of vehicles and personal radios, and crime prevention campaigns which seek to enlist the aid of the public in bringing incidents to the prompt attention of the police.
