HC Deb 11 February 1970 vol 795 c366W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many immigrant doctors since November have been required by hospitals to pass an English test; and how many have failed.

Mr. Crossman

There is no separate language test as such; but the ability of overseas doctors to communicate in English in a clinical situation is one of several factors taken into account by consultant assessors under the attachment scheme, which was strengthened and expanded last November.
