HC Deb 10 February 1970 vol 795 c331W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is aware of the concern being expressed at the mixing of heart and suicide cases in Ward 8 of the City General Hospital, at Hartshill; and what steps he proposes to alleviate the problem.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The allocation of new patients to appropriate wards is a matter for local medical management. At the City General Hospital cases of attempted suicide are necessarily admitted to general medical wards for initial treatment before reference to a psychiatrist. To improve the management of admissions a scheme for a combined acute medical and admission unit is included in the capital programme of the Birmingham Regional Hospital Board for the year 1971–72.
