HC Deb 09 February 1970 vol 795 c251W
Mr. Fortescue

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated annual cost of the proposals in the National Superannuation and Social Insurance Bill to relax the earnings rule for pensioners.

Mr. Ennals

I assume the hon. Member has in mind the more generous earnings rule for the dependent wives of retirement pensioners and invalidity pensioners which is proposed in paragraph 44 of the Explanatory Memorandum on the National Superannuation and Social Insurance Bill (Cmnd. 4222). The additional cost of this proposal is likely to be of the order of £10 million a year.
