HC Deb 09 February 1970 vol 795 cc260-1W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many birds and other species of wild life have died or had to be destroyed this winter as a result of oil pollution around the Cumberland coast.

Mr. Fowler

About 50 birds are reported to have died or been destroyed as a result of oil pollution since November. There is no evidence that other species of wild life were killed by oil.
