HC Deb 09 February 1970 vol 795 c248W
77. Mr. Wood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has now summarised the evidence favourable to the staff of the Hornsea Children's Convalescent Hospital, which was heard by the committee of inquiry in July, 1969; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Crossman

I am grateful to the right hon. Gentleman for this Question. The report of this independent committee of inquiry, set up by the Leeds Regional Hospital Board, included a summary of evidence. As regards evidence favourable to the staff the report saidNineteen witnesses including eight children gave evidence at their own request supporting the hospital and staff expressing their admiration, gratitude and satisfaction for the treatment given at the hospital and praising the hospital generally. Further a large number of letters were produced written both before and after the allegations with which we are concerned were made public in which gratitude to and support for the hospital and staff were expressed.
