Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what progress is being made in modernising older council houses in the city of Carlisle; and if he will make a statement.

During 1969 proposals were approved for the modernisation of 81 older council houses. Proposals for a further 42 have already been approved this year, and more are expected shortly. The Department have discussed with the Council how this programme might be accelerated.
