HC Deb 05 February 1970 vol 795 cc192-3W
Q5. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Prime Minister if he will recommend the establishment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the financial circumstances of widows.

The Prime Minister

No. The Committee on One-parent Families, which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services announced on 6th November, will have as part of its concern the special difficulties of widows who have children. Proposals for improving the financial position of other widows have been put forward by the Government in the National Superannuation and Social Insurance Bill, at present before Parliament.—[Vol. 790. c. 175–6.]
