HC Deb 05 February 1970 vol 795 cc173-4W
71. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science in how many deaths from cancer of any form over the last 10 years, the cooperation of relatives has been sought to try to identify environmental, diet, or other factors which might have contributed to the deceased's terminal illness; what proportion of the total deaths from cancer over the last 10 years this represents; where such research is carried out; and what proportion of the total cancer research budget for which Her Majesty's Government is responsible or sponsors is spent on this form of research.

Mr. Fowler

This information is not available. A wide range of epidemiological studies relating to cancer have been, and are being, undertaken under the auspices of the Medical Research Council and in university departments. During the course of these investigations retrospective inquiries are made as necessary with the purpose of identifying possible factors which may have contributed to the onset of the disease.
