HC Deb 03 February 1970 vol 795 cc75-6W
81. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make a statement on the progress made in dealing with the water problem presented by a deputation to his Department from the county borough of Tynemouth in the autumn.

Mr. Denis Howell

Last November the river authority let a contract for investigating how the flow in the Tyne could be augmented by pumping water into it from mines, so that more water could be drawn from it lower down. The results of the investigation are expected to be known about the end of March this year.
