Mr. Milne

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will introduce legislation for the Government control, or transfer to the appropriate local authorities, of beaches throughout the country which at present are privately owned.

Mr. Skeffington

There are already powers under the Town and Country Planning Acts and the Coast Protection Act under which beaches can be protected. I do not think that the need for further legislation has been established, but I shall carefully consider any evidence that may be submitted to me.
