asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the ratio between personal saving and personal income before tax in 1969; and how this compares with each of the years from 1963 to 1968.

Mr. Taverne

The ratio of personal saving to personal income before tax in the first three quarters of 1969 was 5.9 per cent. (seasonally adjusted); figures for the calendar year 1969 are not yet available. In the years 1963 to 1968 the corresponding percentages were 6.4, 6.8, 7.1, 7.0, 6.5 and 6.1.
