§ 89. Mr. Eadieasked the Minister of Technology what system is now employed in the disposal of radioactive effluent from nuclear installations in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Alan WilliamsApart from highly radioactive waste which is stored, disposal of liquid radioactive effluents from nuclear installations is by discharge to sea estuaries of rivers. Such disposals can only be made under authorisation from the appropriate Ministries. Authorisations are not given unless the Ministries are satisfied that the disposals are well within the safe limits.
