HC Deb 02 February 1970 vol 795 c43W
104. Mr. Gordon Campbell

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what modification of hangars at Kinloss for Nimrod aircraft is now requiring further work to be carried out; and if he Will make a statement.

Mr. John Silkin

Three large hangars at Kinloss are being extended to accommodate Nimrod aircraft. During the course of construction certain structural weaknesses became apparent, and strengthening measures were put in hand. These are expected to be completed in phase with the arrival of the Nimrods. The error in calculation which was the main cause of the trouble was an isolated failure, but procedures have been tightened in such a way as to eliminate the risk of a repetition.
