† Most applications for relaxations cover more than one regulation.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on how many occasions he has issued new building standards regulations; and in what manner these new regulations have been published.

Mr. Ross

Building Standards Regulations were laid before Parliament as statutory instruments in 1963 (S.I., 1963, No. 1897), 1964 (S.I., 1964, No. 802), and 1967 (S.I., 1967, No. 1136). They were, as is usual, printed and published for sale by the Stationery Office. The draft proposals for these regulations were also printed and published for general sale by the Stationery Office, as were draft proposals published in November, 1968. The draft proposals and the regulations as finally made were given appropriate Press publicity.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on how many occasions he has been required to hold a public inquiry following the making of building standards regulations.

Mr. Ross

There has been one public inquiry, in June, 1963, into objections to the draft proposals for the 1963 regulations.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average time taken by his Department to deal with applications for relaxation of the building standards regulations.

Mr. Ross

Last year it was about 11 weeks.
