§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will publish in HANSARD a detailed statement showing how the bill of £348 16s. 3d. presented to the Tower Hamlets local authority for the use of Servicemen to clear refuse during the recent strike was made up, how much for the salaries for each of the officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks, and how much for the use of plant and equipment; and on what basis of time spent was the charge made.
§ Mr. Ian Gilmour£341 10s. 9d. was the cost of the use of Army transport, and additional rations and allowances for those taking part cost £7 5s. 6d. The pay of the Servicemen employed is not included in the extra costs charged because it would have been incurred in any event. The time spent on the task was 308¼ man-hours.
