HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 cc454-5W
Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the use of live fowl pest vaccine is to be made permanent in this country; what regulations or conditions he is attaching to its uses; and whether his authorisation of its use means the acceptance by him that fowl pest is now endemic in Great Britain.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Live vaccines of the Hitchener B1 strain are being approved for use in this country on a continuing basis alongside the inactivated vaccine. No conditions attach to the use of these vaccines provided they have been licensed under the Therapeutic Substances Order. I would not accept that approval of the use of the Hitchener B1 vaccine will make fowl pest endemic in Great Britain.
