HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 c460W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will now direct one of Her Majesty's ships, with a naval doctor and a fully equipped naval berth, for fishery protection duties off the northwest coast of Iceland to replace H.M.S. "Malcolm" after 19th December until the mother-ship "Miranda" is available for duty and on station.

Mr. Kirk

No.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Minister of State for Defence why another of Her Majesty's vessels was not available with medical facilities aboard to replace H.M.S. "Malcolm" as fishing protection vessel off the north-west coast of Iceland until the mother ship "Miranda" was available for duty and on station.

Mr. Kirk

There are no plans to deploy another frigate to the north-west coast of Iceland on H.M.S. "Malcolm's" return to the United Kingdom. Arrangements are being made by the Department of Trade and Industry to support the fishing fleet in this area until the "Miranda" arrives on station.
