HC Deb 18 December 1970 vol 808 cc525-6W
Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the projected date for cessation of use of the present A473 road between Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd, and Traveller's Rest, Abercynon.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I have invited tenders for the construction of the third stage of the A470 trunk road between Glyntaff and Abercynon. I hope work can start early in 1971 and be completed in about 2½ years. The existing length of road between Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd, and Traveller's Rest, Abercynon, is being re-aligned to cater for local traffic and is not being taken out of use.

Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many fatal accidents have occurred each year since 1960 on the A473 road between Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd, and Traveller's Rest, Abercynon;

(2) how many road accidents have occurred on the A473 road between Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd, and Traveller's Rest, Abercynon, since 1964, which have been caused in whole or in part by a vehicle overtaking another or others;

(3) how many multiple road accidents there have been on the A473 road between Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd, and Traveller's Rest, Abercynon, each year since 1964.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I regret that this information for the years in question is not readily available. I am obtaining such information as is available for the recent years and will then write to the hon. Member.
