HC Deb 17 December 1970 vol 808 cc433-4W
93. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is aware that nine persons who had been discharged in recent years from the North Wales Hospital for the mentally ill and who were resident at a privately owned boarding house in the Wrexham constituency have been transferred this week to hospitals and local authority homes suffering from anaemia, severe undernourishment and scabies; and if he will take steps to prevent recurrences.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I am aware of the situation. The transfers follow from steps which, on the resolution of certain difficulties, the county council is now able to take to control conditions in private establishments which cater for the mentally ill. While these establishments generally try to give good service I am satisfied that local authorities intend to maintain a close watch on them all.
