HC Deb 17 December 1970 vol 808 cc428-9W
Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether Her Majesty's Government has now entered into a commitment with the Romanian Government whereby they will receive substantial increases in their agricultural and horticultural quotas in recognition of placing a certain irrigation contract in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The former Administration gave an undertaking to the Romanian Government that in the event of their placing in the United Kingdom a contract for an irrigation project in Romania. and because the conclusion of such a contract would indicate a continuing high level of exports generally to Romania, certain agricultural and horticultural quotas would be increased by a total annual value of £1 million. We felt it right that we should honour that commitment and the Romanian Government were so informed.
