HC Deb 16 December 1970 vol 808 c392W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he is taking to give priority to providing houses for the aged and the disabled in Wales; how many such houses were provided in Wales since 1964; and what was the comparable figure for East Flintshire.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I attach importance to the provision of dwellings to meet the special needs of the elderly and the disabled. My Department encourages such schemes and provision is made in the determination of cost limits for local authority housing schemes against the extra cost of additional amenities for such dwellings.

Information is not available about the number of dwellings provided specifically for these special purposes; but since 1964, 9,500 one-bedroom dwellings (falling almost wholly within that category) have been completed by local authorities in Wales: the comparable figure for the six local authorities in East Flintshire is 500.
