HC Deb 16 December 1970 vol 808 c365W
132. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry why it is that ships registered in the German Democratic Republic may dock at British seaports but aircraft registered in the German Democratic Republic may not land in British airports.

Mr. Noble

While no act of Government approval is necessary in order for foreign registered ships to dock at United Kingdom ports, such an act of approval is required for all services to and from this country by foreign registered aircraft. Her Majesty's Government do not recognise the German Democratic Republic. It would therefore be inappropriate to negotiate with that body for the operation of flights by aircraft registered there.
