Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he will state the reasons why he will not move to appoint a Select Committee to seek evidence as available on the advantages or otherwise of Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community, and on the terms which will be recommended resulting from the present negotiations.

I have already made clear the basis on which I think the House should proceed as regards Select Committees. It is my intention that the House as a whole will have a full and adequate opportunity to discuss these matters as the need arises.
