HC Deb 15 December 1970 vol 808 c293W
Mr. Gorst

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in the interest of preserving the confidential nature of the relationship between doctors and their patients, he will issue a circular to all those working in the National Health Service requiring them not to provide any confidential information about their patients for feeding into computers if that information is linked with the name of the patient and is not done with the knowledge and consent of that patient.

Sir K. Joseph

All National Health Service authorities and practitioners are aware of the need to preserve the confidentiality of medical records, whether maintained by computer or otherwise.
