HC Deb 15 December 1970 vol 808 cc275-6W
36. Mr. Le Marchant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps he proposes to take to control the money supply in the remainder of the current financial year.

Mr. Barber

I cannot anticipate what further action, if any, may be necessary.

40. Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the increase in money supply.

43. Mr. Kenneth Baker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the increase in the money supply in each of the first three quarters in 1970.

Mr. Barber

In each of the first three quarters of the calendar year, the money supply (M3) rose by £99 million, £646 million and £240 million, respectively, after seasonal adjustment.

Mr. Dykes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the expected growth in the money supply for the calendar year 1970 and the fiscal year 1970–71.

Mr. Higgins

The figures for recent quarters are published in the December issue of theBank of England Quarterly Bulletin. With regard to the remainder of the financial year, my right hon. Friend's intention remains to keep the growth of the monetary aggregates firmly contained.
