HC Deb 15 December 1970 vol 808 cc323-4W
Mr. George Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what objections have been advanced by the Metropolitan Police to the introduction of a ban on the overnight parking of lorries in residential streets in South-West Islington;

(2) what are the plans for the Metropolitan Police for the introduction of bans on the overnight parking of lorries after the conclusion of the Tower Hamlets experimental scheme.

Mr. Sharples

It is for the Greater London Council to decide whether such measures shall be taken. I understand that the Commissioner of Police is concerned about the enforcement and related difficulties that extensive prohibitions would create and intends to await the outcome of an experiment in Tower Hamlets before making up his mind whether to support or object to prohibitions proposed for other areas.
