asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will indicate the loss of revenue resulting from abolition of the fuel oil tax.

Mr. Higgins

If the fuel oil tax were abolished, the loss in revenue would be about £130 million a year.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give, for the latest and most convenient stated date or period of time, the revenue the Treasury has received from the petrol and diesel oil fuel tax.

Mr. Higgins

£1,193 million in the financial year 1969–70.
