Mr. Fred Evans

Mr. Peter Thomas

The number of children in Wales listed by education authorities as suffering from impaired hearing and the number of these children receiving education in special schools or in partially hearing units at 1st January was as follows:

Mr. Fred Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list, local education authority by local education authority, the provisions made for the education of deaf children.

Mr. Peter Thomas

There are two special schools in Wales where provision is made for the education of children with impaired hearing. These areGlamorgan: Glamorgan Nursery School for the Deaf, Whitchurch. Age range 2–7 years, 10 day and 20 boarding places. Welsh Joint Education Committee: Llandrindod Wells School, Radnorshire. Age range 4–16 years, 80 boarding places. This school is to be rebuilt at Penarth, Glamorgan, during 1970–71 and will then provide 20 day and 60 boarding places.

In addition, a number of education authorities in Wales make provision in special classes or units attached to ordinary primary and secondary schools for children whose hearing is only partially impaired.
